A solid room that, although very small - especially for larger teams - packed a lot into the space in a very clever way. There were several really interesting puzzles, and especially as the game progressed, some really showstopping moments, but what let this game down for us on our visit was quite a bit of broken tech, which triggered at incorrect times, both spoiling future surprises, and confusing us once or twice. That was a shame, as the decor and theme were good and the puzzles engaging and varied, albeit not always with the best signposting. There was also one puzzle that downright irritated - you’ll see why! That, and another element to the room represent my absolute pet peeve with escape rooms very effectively. Hosting was so-so; lovely and friendly, but no promised time checks (there is no countdown in the room), and also no apology for all the broken or unreliable tech. Nevertheless, we still really enjoyed this room, and the atmosphere and the things that did work and give the “wow” factor meant that it was still a four star room for me, better than their other room The Anatomist.
A brilliant room. The theming is first class. Felt like we had been transported back to the days of Burke & Hare. Our GM Julia was great. The puzzles were very clever and had a great story to them. As a team of two we found it tricky but this didn't stop us really enjoying ourselves. Would highly recommend this room!
This escape room delivers a beautifully realised theme and a reliable, classic experience for fans of traditional puzzles. The set design and atmosphere are engaging, but the game relies heavily on text-based clues, there’s quite a bit of reading required, which may slow the pace and might put off players looking for a more action‑driven adventure. Overall, it’s a good outing with nice challenges, but be prepared for plenty of reading.
Second game played with Escape the past after being impressed by their room: The Anatomist. Once again the games master was in full costume and very welcoming (Beth).
The story brief itself was very fun and spooky, with the games master's acting aiding the whole thing.
This is a small escape room but it has alot packed into it via the cabinet (as mentioned in their name), very technical and yet it still sticks well to it's 16th century theme. Puzzels are challenging but do able although we did need abit of help. Lots of suprises and definately our favourite escape room that we've played so far within Edinburgh
Beautifully designed room, very well themed and it does feel like you have indeed stepped into the past. Our games master was even in costume and in character for the entire brief. Clues were given over a speaker which breaks the illusion a little but i don't know how else they would do it.
Games master (Charlotte) was very nice and the puzzels themselves are not too difficult, and tie in to the theme of the room. Theres a good variety of puzzels and some fun little tech pieces, plus a fun suprise at the end.
One of our favourite rooms in Edinburgh
