Games played by Juliette B

Good start to the story in terms of immersion, and puzzles that were largely fitting to the theme. It was fun but had a couple of moments where we didn't really understand the flow or direction, or felt red herrings were a little too much in play. A little light on content if experienced players. Enjoyed the last part of the game although we were uncertain if we had completed it correctly until the GM returned which was a bit of a shame. Well hosted by our GM.

Overall it was fun to play but I'd play it more as a game to fit in with playing other Escapologic games at the venue rather than travelling to play standalone (and if you are looking for only one heist theme in Nottingham, I would absolutely pick Daylight Robbery which is excellent).

The set for this is fantastic, multiple spaces with high attention to detail and a variety of special effects to be enjoyed. It isn't a classic escape room per se in that there are not lots of puzzles to work out but it is immersive and I can see in terms of development how this is one direction ERs could go. Definitely requires physical agility by all team members. I am not familiar with Warhammer so didn't get any added satisfaction that way but can't say it mattered to me in terms of experience.

This is good fun - we found it pretty easy (reflected in the completion time) but thought the physical aspects of the game were very entertaining and enjoyed the local theme. Set looks fantastic. One of my favourite Escapologic Nott games.

This game is beautiful - the cave, and the audio/video has you immersed in the story instantly. There is plenty to keep you busy and the puzzles are enjoyable, with a couple of very clever ideas. The hint system is on theme and excellent at pointing you in the right direction rather than telling you the answer. We played as a two and completed it, but only just (and that was playing with relatively few now-what moments). Excellent flow. I enjoyed this more than Carfax as it was less search heavy, but they are both absolutely worth playing (and I understand Carfax has undergone a lot of change since we played it, and that is no longer the case).

This is a great game - on a common theme, but still immersive, and you are unlikely to run out of things to do. If you like puzzles, they are all here, and you will get to use your full time doing them. Non-linear and many choices to be made!

Thoroughly enjoyed by my 8 year old son who was the right age for deciphering the puzzles with just a little bit of help. Was keen to do more by this company as soon as they are available.

Comes with a black light pen/torch which was also a big hit with him/his 5 year old sister - to the extent that we now have secret messages written in a variety of places (banisters, walls, drawer fronts...)

High quality set design again from HIH, didn't enjoy this one as much as the Golden Skull/Master of Time games - perhaps more just having an inexperienced GM but found elements of this game very frustrating (one issue relating to a translation used in the game, another with a puzzle which we really struggled to understand and which the clue took us rather outside the immersive experience). There are undoubtedly great aspects to this game, and it still rates as far higher quality than the majority of games with an enjoyable back story and some good puzzles and theatrics - I would still recommend playing it but some of the logic aspects were a little more stretched in this one than the other games.

Absolutely loved this game - my favourite of the 3 HIH offerings we played, and hard to pick between these and the Ernie's at Skurrilum. High quality set, busy for the full hour, genuinely immersive and really just a series of delights. A must play if in Hamburg.

Played: 06/10/20 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Fantastic start, impeccably hosted, high quality set design from HIH as seems to be their trademark. A little easier than their other offerings but no less enjoyable.

Played this unintentionally after our booked game (Nostrodamus) suffered a catastrophic failure on part of the previous team rendering it out of action. Traditional style ER - fun, and nicely set, but a little heavy on the searching and could have used more refinement with the hint system. GM was the owner and was kind enough to essentially let us play for free given the circumstances - we enjoyed the Chapel more, so given Nostrodamus is the newest room might be worth checking in preference (when it is fixed...!)

Played: 09/10/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Enjoyed the theming and story of this game, a couple of funny moments from the GM. One puzzle was a bit of a logic leap but overall worth playing if you can stretch to more games in Hamburg after Skurrilum/HIH/Big Break...

Played: 05/10/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Expansive room with plenty to do throughout the hour and some moments of humour. Good fun and bar a couple of search fails, flowed smoothly.

Played: 05/10/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Fun room with some unusual ideas, worth a visit if in Hamburg and you can afford the extra after Skurrilum and HIH (and a bit cheaper than those too). The opening of the game was strong and got us into the vibe for the rest; some cool set design also.

Played: 06/10/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Beautiful decor with an engaging start, enjoyable puzzles. Some frustration with some broken tech nearing the end of the game which meant we couldn't complete one puzzle. Probably the easiest of the Skurrilum games (of the 4 available in English) - still fun though, and a cut above your average game.

Played: 07/10/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 59:59 Outcome: Successful escape!

Good fun, but showing its age a little compared to the other rooms - lovely props, and a couple of lovely puzzles. Would still recommend but not in the same league as the Ernies.

My favourite Skurrilum game, brilliant immersive story with some standout moments, just superb.

Fantastic, immersive game from start to finish with some great touches and an engaged GM. Worthy of all its previous accolades.

High quality contents and enjoyable puzzling to be had, played this after Witchery Spell and in retrospect wish we had done the other way around - this is far easier. We still enjoyed it and had a good time playing, and definitely at the higher end quality wise for an at home game. You can also purchase a refill pack so you can pass it on after you have finished.

Played: 25/08/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

I think this was ok, and really nothing wrong with it per se, but we just found it too easy in terms of puzzles and got through it very quickly. Good for beginners if you are just starting out, or don't want something too taxing, but nothing too exciting to recommend searching it out. Quality of the package overall was good and the story line worked fine, but we opted not to continue the subscription - played an at home DarkPark the next night and found that far better.

Played: 05/09/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Surprisingly, we've not played an entirely-themed conspiracy game before and these covers several of those bases. Good mix of search/logic/skill - clear flow in the first half, a couple of mental/search blocks for us later in the game caused a little frustration on our part, but this was more on our own abilities rather than the game - would recommend if in the area, owner happy to spend time chatting about the game design/games generally at the end also.

Played: 05/09/20 Team size: 2 Time taken: 65:20 Outcome: Successful escape!

75 minute game with plenty to do. Thought this was a great game, thoroughly enjoyed the puzzles, the variety and the immersion, set design done nicely. A couple of points that could use a little finesse with how the game runs but these are minor niggles and would definitely recommend playing this if in the area.

Had been meaning to pay these guys a visit having played their old venue near Cambridge before - and this turned out to be Game #100 for me. Very on theme with the child's room and the puzzles and a nice mix of skill and puzzle games. A good one for the whole family to enjoy as nothing too tough. Finished (just) in the allotted time, although did end up bypassing one skill puzzle due to own ineptitude and had one search fail for which we needed a clue. Solid fun, lovely enthusiast owner, also kind enough to provide an Escake at the end despite no prior warning of the #100 status.

Played: 16/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 59:55 Outcome: Successful escape!

This is a very enjoyable room with a variable difficulty setting ensuring that even with experience there is plenty to fill your time (we escaped with £900,000/no clues). Had some genuine adrenaline later on in the game and definitely a buzz from the finish - some great ideas in this game, and had a lovely GM host us who was clearly passionate about playing ERs as well.

Played: 16/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 59:11 Outcome: Successful escape!

Fun game and as per the TimeTrap experience, another beautiful set design and backstory. Enjoyed the first half more than the second half - didn't quite agree with elements of a couple of the puzzles and felt one of the props probably needed a repaint, although fairly minor gripes and possibly judging too harshly having just played their other two games which are fantastic - would still very much recommend playing this.

Played: 15/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 47:14 Outcome: Successful escape!

This was definitely a bit easier than the other TimeTrap games we played over a weekend (reflected in our time, no clues), but it's a lovely game - it looks fantastic, enjoyed the optional secondary goal to vary the difficulty a little and it all flowed very well. Recommend playing for the experience - good fun.

Played: 15/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 58:29 Outcome: Successful escape!

Fantastic atmospheric set, well thought out puzzles, a little bit of history thrown in - really nothing not to like about this game. Brilliant.

Played: 15/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 58:29 Outcome: Successful escape!

We had a blast doing this room, everything flowed very logically and we enjoyed that there was an optional "extreme" mode for enthusiasts. Set looked fantastic. Owners clearly enthusiasts and had a great chat about ERs in general when we were there - we didn't play their other rooms (which I believe are easier) but would highly recommend checking this one out if you are in the area.

Loved the idea for this game and how it worked - very clever. Great hosting by James, who was kind enough to have a long chat about the puzzles and gaming generally afterwards.

Played: 14/08/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 58:00 Outcome: Successful escape!

Lovely hosting by Charlie, fun puzzles and some comedy moments from the computer. Set is looking a little tired but by their own admission the game is due for retirement - and I'm glad we got a chance to play while it's still open.

The newest offering from Exciting Escapes, we'd bought a voucher to try this room out some time ago pre-CV but only finally got the opportunity in the summer after a very delayed opening for them. Forms Part 1 of a planned Part 2 game with the second part being their Christmas offering this year if things go to plan. The decor is well done in terms of being "in a ship" although I have to say from the game description it is not what I expected (having thought there would be a little more opulence if a wealthy traveller was involved). I think they have done well given it is such a small space and we felt occupied most of the time - it is quite linear and consequently there was one part of the game where I had literally nothing to do as the task required one person to focus on working something out that was very small (this could have been done in a way that was more accessible to all so I'm not quite sure why decision was made to do it in the way they did).  Managed to bypass one part of a puzzle completely which led to a little later confusion (handled quickly by GM). Enjoyed the ending. Solid room and fun, but wouldn't recommend doing with more than 3 people (and 2 probably better) due to size and nature of game; difficulty ok but played Dark Deeds on the same day and would give that the edge in terms of puzzle quality and enjoyment.

Played: 26/07/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 59:59 Outcome: Successful escape!

Good decor and volume of puzzles to keep us occupied for our first trip back into live ERs post lockdown. Well hosted by the GM who just gave us a couple of nudges at the end (which meant we finished on 59:59 exactly). Did manage to bypass part of the game having worked out the solution for a puzzle without having all the info, and missed a small part of the game entirely having seen what was required without finding the instructions. One puzzle didn't quite make sense INHO although we did work out what was required in the end. Solid ER fun and felt like a reasonable difficulty level for a pair.

This was so enjoyable - beautifully presented, well thought out with good interaction between virtual and physical media, and incredibly immersive. All the info is available to you from the outset and gradually you make sense of it. Probably not the hardest box game we have done in lockdown, but (to date) the one I have enjoyed the most. Absolutely recommend.

Another excellent offering from CQ to complete the trilogy - thoroughly enjoyed (possibly slightly less than P2 but more than P1). High quality video clips to go along with the story. Works well as a pair.

Also: less cutting than Part 2!

Played: 11/07/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

Engaging, funny and very well done - highly recommend this for giving you a real-life escape room vibe.

We had great fun playing this - it was set up well to make sure that everyone participated equally and our hosts were funny and engaging. I wasn't that sure about rooms with live actors tbh,  but they have done this so well it doesn't feel awkward, and as it is designed as on online game it isn't the case that you are trying to do  a real life ER. Recommended!
Played: 25/06/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 65:05 Outcome: Successful escape!

Solid experience but a little on the easy side.  Some good ideas with puzzles but felt Part 2 (which we played first, and which did give us a substantial clue as to one of the answers so  would not recommend doing this) was much stronger in terms of puzzle quality and game experience. Again too much cutting (some of which having played it was avoidable!). Having enjoyed Part 2 as much as we did though, I would definitely play future at home experiences, and I do like the physicality of assembling the puzzles IRL rather than on a computer.

There is a lot of faff cutting paper pieces out getting ready to play this game: however, ClueQuest completely make this worth your while. A succession of incredibly well thought out puzzles that are challenging, yet logical enough that we never became frustrated or needed to take a hint. Given this is all paper based and playing on a table, they have designed this incredibly well in terms of interaction with the environment and it felt immersive - the videos between game parts really add to the experience. Enough to do that at times we could work on separate things. Several a-ha moments as the puzzles came together - really recommend playing this, great value.

Can't really complain given it is free but really just a game taster for those wondering about online digital ER experiences - completed in 9 minutes

Played: 20/05/2020 Team size: 2 Time taken: 42:00 Outcome: Successful escape!

Entertaining but brief - very old school feel to it in terms of graphics and point and click. Diverting enough and has the feeling of a real escape room but quite easy on the scale of these games so unlikely to take too much time. Rather abrupt ending to the story (possibly as more games are coming).

Played: 11/05/2020 Team size: 2 Outcome: Successful escape!

3 part digital ER game with mixture of online, paper and computer game elements. One puzzle which has been by far my favourite experience of online gaming in lockdown (along the lines of Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes) which evoked the opposite emotion of frustration in my other half. Some parts felt a little drawn out/repetitive but overall, cannot deny the fantastic value you get for £10 with this game. Didn't time ourselves across the 3 parts -  around the 3 hour mark though.
