Nottingham

2-5 players

60 minutes

Passengers on pilgrimage aboard a trader ship, Evadere The Tempestas, on course to holy Terra. Pilgrims have been escorted to their quarters deep within the bowels of the vessel, upon entering they are told the ship will soon translate into the warp and the journey will begin. The ship stirs into life, players hear a distant rumble and feel a faint vibration as the engines wake. As the warp jump is made, the warp core and several ship systems fail, causing massive damage to the craft. Players have no choice but to leave and find out what has happened or risk being trapped in the crew quarters while the ship is slowly torn apart. Here the real journey begins... battle through the Warp Storm and escape the ever seeping Chaos.
Created in conjunction with Games Workshop, Immaterium is a simultaneous cooperative team experience. For the first time ever, players will be able to jump into the world of Warhammer 40,000 and experience its myriad dangers for real. They will touch, smell and feel all areas of the ship and everything on it – including a talking Servitor. Up to five people at a time can immerse themselves in Immaterium, and explore the deepest recesses of a star-faring vessel facing imminent doom.

A fantastic immersive experience in an impressive set.  Very light on puzzles, so not necessarily the best match for an online game, but we were very impressed and had a great experience.

We found it lacked puzzles. The theming is very immersive but it wasn't clear what we actually needed to do

WOW.

This game is something else. Yet again, the Escapologic team have created something truly magical.

From start to finish the immersion was phenomenal.

My only issue is I now don’t know if this or curio is my favourite room.

A true masterpiece that will have you occupying every inch of the room and will keep you going for sure.

FANTASTIC

The set for this is fantastic, multiple spaces with high attention to detail and a variety of special effects to be enjoyed. It isn't a classic escape room per se in that there are not lots of puzzles to work out but it is immersive and I can see in terms of development how this is one direction ERs could go. Definitely requires physical agility by all team members. I am not familiar with Warhammer so didn't get any added satisfaction that way but can't say it mattered to me in terms of experience.

If you're a Warhammer fan this this will be a wet dream for you, but even if you aren't a fan the room build is stunningly detailed and are visual feasts. But its really more of an event or experience, its very light on puzzles with much more doing than solving.Regardless of being puzzle light  is a room to do as there are incedible OMG! moments, its a must play just don't expect a puzzlefest.

This is a hard room to review, I think it falls somewhere between an escape room and more of a theme park experience, this is a hybrid without fully committing to either one.  The theming and scenery are absolutely top notch, the puzzles aren't arguably original but they are done well and completely in theming.  You don't need to know any of the background of the game this is based on to enjoy it but I'm sure it's packed with easter eggs for fans.  I had a couple of issues with the audio system and elements of the scenery but I was able to talk to the GM at the end regarding this.  Escapologic have pushed the envelope again with this and I think it's a fascinating view of a potential view for the future.

Very immersive and great set design. Know nothing about warhammer and yet still really appreciated the level of detail in this game, so if you are clued up on the game then this must be even better! We did have quitw a bit of time left so maybe would have been nicer if there were a few more puzzles, we had no clues either. Be warned it gets very warm in this game and you do need to crawl about a bit and be able to manoeuvre around small places. We were given cold water which we held to our necks throughout the game to not overheat, definitely wear cooler clothing if you can.

Not a massive fan of warhammer myself at the time but the rest of the group were. The room is stunning, the puzzles were well thought out and didn't require any warhammer knowledge at all. The whole atmosphere was brilliant!

theme of the game is very original. you don't have to be a Warhammer fan to enjoy this one. Light on puzzles but not a bad thing, it was a more physical game with lots of tunnels to crawl and climb inside of. Highly recommend this game if you're looking for something slightly different to try!

I'm conflicted by this room.  Easily one of the best theming of any room that we've done.  The decor, the sounds, the special effects - lovely.  And certainly more activity/movement required than any other room we have done.  And I would imagine as a two player, quite good fun.  But as a four player, we found it a bit linear, with 1-2 players twiddling thumbs waiting for the next step.  And even now, there are a few puzzles where we still don't know why what we did worked.

[as an aside, this is the only room I think we've ever been to where the host didn't ask us if we had done any escape rooms before putting us in; also one of the few where we have no official record of time taken, either on the team photo, or a little card. Not sure if this is policy or not at Escapologic, but it didnt add to the experience]

Just not for us. Didn’t seem to flow and difficult to hear what was being said. Lots of people will certainly love this game but unfortunately just didn’t hold our attention. Also felt like the host wasn’t there a lot of the time and we were trying to get clues but no response or guidance

Don't do this room if you value the "figure it out" aspect of escape rooms. Unfortunately there's only one or two puzzles in the room that actually involve some level of logic and absorption of information to progress. Most puzzles are "come to the puzzle, look at a bunch of tech, mess with the tech to see if anything substantial comes to mind, get a clue from the robot which tells you what the designer had in mind at the time the puzzle was built", so many puzzles had missing information and didn't make sense without a clue.

HOWEVER, as other reviews have pointed out, the room is on another level of immersion and beauty so there's still value for money here. I feel like "badly flawed" is a good description because it didn't have what I value in an escape room, which is puzzles that have enough information to let you figure them out without too many clues.

The sets in this room are movie quality and the sense of adventure matches this. Quite physical with a focus on this rather than difficult puzzling. We struggled to identify what had opened upon puzzle completion and so this impacted our time and enjoyment of the game. With a few additional audio clues / increased lighting in particularly dark areas this could be really awesome. The ending especially was cool!

A little different from your normal escape room, a bit more of an experience crossed with an escape room. We had great fun, the room flowed well and had great use of tech. The room itself is a little tight in places and get warm,  but we got through it and had lots of fun!

Escapologic doing what they do best, an amazing themed room, all the attention to detail, a fantastic experience with a few puzzles thrown in to the mix. If you know Warhammer it's a great room (said my warhammer teammates) and if not it's still an incredible space ship adventure with a great finale too.

All of the puzzles are very achievable in the time frame, everyone needs to 'escape' for the finale so seasoned escapees should enjoy it for the epic experience that it is.

This must be an absolutely amazing game to do in person.  The set is remarkably immersive. All of the detail made the translation to online a bit difficult--there were a lot of elements that were purely set dressing that made finding those elements you could actually interact with a bit frustrating.  An enjoyable experience nonetheless, with a delightful absence of combination locks.  Totally playable by those without knowledge of Warhammer.

Visually amazing, and not just for warhammer fans! The immersion in this room is off the scale, even areas which you do not actively interact with have been build with so much attention to detail that you will stop your avatar to give you a closer look. Puzzle wise theres not a huge amount to do, but that gives you time to enjoy the immersion and get more involved with the storyline. It really is a must do game.

If you love warhammer, then you'll adore this game!

No expense has been spared in the creation of the game, it is a visual feast from start to finish. The level of detail in the rooms decor is absolutely outstanding. We were lucky enough to get to test play the online avatar version of the game and we both agreed that we wanted to crawl through our screens and experience the game in person (thanks covid).

Our avatar was great, he stayed in character throughout the game and offered small hints when we weren't sure quite what to do next.

As an escape game, the game isn't too puzzle heavy and the puzzles that are there aren't too challenging, but the overall experience makes up for any downfall on that part.

Overall, the game is a fantastic experience that I would certainly recommend to any scifi fans or gamers wanting to try a different kind of game!

Reviews by escape room review sites

Possibly one of the most visually stunning games that we have ever played. Ok, the puzzles didn’t particularly click with us but that won’t stop us recommending this game. Make sure you stretch before you play, you need to be quite mobile as you navigate around the ship.
This room will thrill any Warhammer fan of course, but also any general sci-fi fan, or anyone who has ever thought they would love the chance at escaping from a perilous situation (whilst never actually being in danger!) or looking for a very atmospheric room with some clever tasks and surprises. It does call for some dexterity as well as climbing and crawling, so a great one for kids just don't wear your best trousers!!
Immaterium delivers a gritty but pretty set with fun, physical puzzles, although be prepared for that lack of user feedback to potentially leave you frustrated. I’d recommend it to anyone who’s in Nottingham, but especially Warhammer or sci-fi fans or those who like physical challenges.
